Eager to explore the island, Satoshi and Pikachu run wild with excitement, quickly losing their way while chasing after a Pokemon. With a brand new region for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that hosts multiple ecosystems, it is the perfect opportunity for Game Freak to give players even more regional variants and evolutions, or maybe even a new eeveelution.After his mother wins a free trip to the islands, Pokemon trainer Satoshi and his partner Pikachu head for Melemele Island of the beautiful Alola region, which is filled with lots of new Pokemon and even variations of familiar faces. It may also add even more of a desire for players to collect as many types and variants of Pokémon as they can across multiple games.
Pokémon Legends: Arceusbrought some new regional variants and evolutions to players but the possibilities for new ones are near endless. Opening up the option of new or multiple regional variants in future Pokémon games can lead to new variations and even evolutions of the player's favorite Pokémon. While the Pokémon types in each region tend to fit with the ecosystem, Game Freak could use this style to add multiple regional variants of a single Pokémon to one game. The player can find many Ice-Type Pokémon in the Arctic Tundra and many Water-Types in the Cobalt Coastlands. Other than traveling through time in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player also travels to different regions, each with its own special ecosystem. Legends: Arceus Opens The Door To More Pokémon Variants This opens up a world of opportunity to give players new variations of their favorite Pokémon. Most Pokémon games take place in different specific regions and each of these regions tends to have separate ecosystems from the tundra to the desert.
While Pokémon Legends: Arceus did give players a few new regional variants of Pokémon, more should have been added and should be added to future games. Pokémon Sword and Shield gave players 28 new variants, including six new evolutions. The first regional variants were based on the Alolan region, giving 18 Pokémon a more tropical feel. Regional variants can impact a Pokémon's appearance, moves, and base stats. Pokémon regional variants first came into light in Generation 7 with Pokémon Sun and Moon. That is over 900 different species across multiple ecosystems and regions. Game Freak has, since Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow were released, given players over 900 Pokémon to play with.
With Pokémon Legends: Arceus having been out for almost three months now and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet expected sometime in 2022, there has been a lot of talk about what new or different Pokémon fans have seen and expect to see in the future, with regional variants a specific point of discussion.
